Once every year the regional development institutions present a selected economic sector of the Frankfurt RheinMain Region in Brussels. The purpose of this event is to familiarise the European institutions with the economic potential of all major sectors of the Frankfurt RheinMain Region. In recent years the following sectors have been presented: plant engineering and process technology, high-tech crafts, healthcare, material and surface technologies, media and life science. In 2004 KompentenzNetzConsulting WiesbadenRheinMain (consulting competence network of the Wiesbaden-RheinMain Region) was presented to the EU institutions at the representative office of the state of Hesse in Brussels. Jochen Riebel, the state minister of Hesse for federal and European affairs and state plenipotentiary with the federal government, gave the welcoming address and introduced the subject. The success of these presentations can be mainly credited to the companies which on behalf of the entire industry convey the economic importance of the sector by presenting their own business activities. At the same time these events provide companies with the opportunity to present themselves at European level and establish useful contacts with the European Commission and other institutions.
