The Frankfurt RhineMain Region is one of the leading european metropolitan regions with approximately 5.5 million inhabitants and 2.8 million wage and salary earners. Geographically, the region is situated in the centre of Europe and mid-way along the axis of economic development stretching from southern England via the Rhine valley to northern Italy (in common parlance "the banana").

The Economic Development Board Frankfurt RhineMain Region covers an area which extends from the Limburg-Weilburg County in the North to the Bergstraße County in the South and from the Mainz-Bingen County in the West to Aschaffenburg County in the East. The region is of a polycentric structure and includes parts of three German federal states (Bundesländer): Bavaria (Bayern), Hesse (Hessen) and Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz) as well as the cities of Frankfurt am Main, Offenbach am Main, Aschaffenburg and Mainz.
